Taiwan (Republik China) ist ein Inselstaat in Ostasien. Die Hauptstadt ist Taipeh, die Einwohnerzahl des Landes liegt bei ca. 23 Mio., in Taipeh leben davon 2,6 Mio. Amtssprache ist Hochchinesisch, die Mehrheit spricht Taiwanesisch, weiters sind Hakka-Dialekte und beinahe alle chinesischen Dialekte vertreten. Bei den Religionen gibt es Buddhismus (98 %), Konfuzianismus, Taoismus u.a.
ICYE Taiwan wurde 1991 mit Unterstützung von YMCA Tainan gegründet und erhielt 1998 den Status einer unabhängigen NGO. Das Büro von ICYE Taiwan befindet sich in Tainan.

Tainan Municipal AnPing Junior High School

Background: The AnPing junior high school was founded in 1969. At that time, the school was surrounded by the fishpond and the canal which force the teachers and students need to go to another campus for the time being. Hence, they were only able to step into the campus after hand-crank moveable bridge was built across the canal in 1971.

The An Ping junior high school’s aim is to continue pursuing superiority in qualified education, enforcing the establishment of campus internet, training the talented information engineers, and pushing forward creative teaching.
 
An Ping hopes that its students possess not only the ability of independent thinking, but also the active and explorative attitude toward learning.
 
Work: The main activity is to provide a formal education system to students aged between 12-15 years old.
 
  • Teaching students about different cultures, customs, sports, or fun games, etc.
  • Helping students to understand foreign cultures and customs to broaden their perspectives
  • Accompanying the children to enhance their English
  • Creating an English learning environment, which helps the student not to be afraid of English

Accommodation: The volunteer will stay with a host family for 3 to 4 months, total of 3 to 4 host family in 12 months.

Location: AnPing junior high school is situated in AnPing District, Tainan City in southern Taiwan. 

Requirements: 

  • Be patient and show responsibility, initiative and creativity
  • Be interested in working with youth
It is good if the volunteer has teaching experience in English, sports, music and art.
