Kenia ist eine Republik im Osten Afrikas. Das Land hat eine Fläche von 582 644 km² und ist damit etwas größer als Frankreich. Die Hauptstadt ist Nairobi. In Kenia leben 49,7 Mio. Menschen, davon ca. 3 Mio. in Nairobi. Kenia ist kulturell und ethnisch sehr heterogen und bunt. Englisch, Kiswahili und über 30 weitere Sprachen werden hier gesprochen. Discover Kenia – ABC Children's Aid in Kenya
Our Project is located near the sprawling Mathare slums where the poverty levels are high with many informal settlements. The project aims to provide education, food and shelter to orphaned, needy and vulnerable children from disadvantaged backgrounds. The project has a total population of 550 students and staff during school days and 50 during holidays. Main activities: Running of a Pre-school, Primary and Secondary Schools, feeding program for the children in the program, child care and sheltering, teaching and participation in co-curricular activities like music, drama and sports.
Location: Mathare north area 3, Nairobi
Volunteer requirements/Skills: Teaching skills (either on preschool, primary or secondary level), counselling skills, interpersonal skills, good communication skills (English language knowledge), arts or sports skills are an additional advantage
Volunteer’s working time: Mostly from Monday to Friday. Working hours are between 20 and 40 hours a week.
Host situation (board and lodging): Volunteers will live with a host family. Lunch will be provided in the project.
Discover Kenia – Women Fighting AIDS in Kenya
The aim of the project is to care and support women and children infected and affected by HIV and AIDS to live wholesome positive lives.
Main activities: Community Development, HIV/AIDS Awareness and work with the most marginalized groups within the community in empowering them. The headquarters are in NAIROBI – KILIMANI. However, Wofak works in 13 branches countrywide in Nairobi, the Coast region, Rift Valley, Nyanza and the western part.
Volunteer requirements/Skills: The volunteer will be engaging in resource mobilization for the organization and will help us tap in the external funding that we have not been able to reach. The volunteer will also bring in skills for economic empowerment to members. The volunteer will be allowed to initiate her/his projects within Wofak as long as this does not contradict our activities. General assistance with administration work. The volunteer must be sensitive to the issues involved with dealing with people affected or infected by HIV.
Volunteer’s working time: Mostly from Monday to Friday. Working hours are between 20 and 40 hours a week.
