ESC – Humanitarian Aid Volunteering 

When? 26 weeks between May and October 2024 

Where: Makoko, Lagos, Nigeria 

Focus areas of this volunteering opportunity:  
Education and training – Environment and natural protection – Health and wellbeing – Disaster prevention and recovery – Working against discrimination.

Who can apply
Citizens aged 18-35 from one of the 27 EU member countries or citizens legally residing in one of the countries associated with the programme (Iceland, Liechtenstein, Turkey and the Republic of North Macedonia) who have completed both the online training “Humanitarian aid training” on EU Academy and the 5 days training in presence

We are looking for a motivated volunteer who is interested in work of the hosting organisation and who is willing to adapt to the new culture, new food and environment, and to follow the safety guidelines that they will receive. A good knowledge of English is recommended.   

Hosting organisation and volunteering activities 
This volunteering gives the opportunity to youth 18-35 years old to spend 6 months supporting the local organisation ICYE Nigeria, whose mission is to contribute toward the socio-economic empowerment of disadvantaged communities around Lagos, Nigeria.   

Volunteers will work 30-38 hours per week and will mainly carry out the following activities:  

  • Educational support for children in schools and after-school clubs;  
  • Organization of initiatives and trainings for community members on health education, climate change, sustainable living practices and environmental conservation; 
  • Environmental conservation activities around the area of Makoko (planting trees, cleaning waterways and paths, removing invasive species, among others);   
  • Advocacy materials and activities to raise awareness around the problems affecting the community and to promote policy changes.  

How to apply
Volunteers interested in joining the program must: 
1) Be registered on the portal of the European Solidarity Corps.  
2) Have completed the “Humanitarian Aid Training” 
3) Send your CV and motivation letter to praktikum@grenzenlos.or.at before 24.03.2024 indicating your ESC personal reference number (PRN)
